History & Specifications of Corvette
After WWII a lot of army men returning home brought small British roadsters with them. Chevrolet wanted to grab a piece of the market so they started work on one of their own. Harley Early was the lead designer of the first generation Corvette. The first car was introduced at GM's Motorama in 1953. It came in convertible only and featured an inline six nicknamed the "Blue Flame." The "Blue Flame" and the lack of a V8 meant the first model year was a sales flop. Consumers wanted more power and the Corvette wasn't giving it to them. Finally, in 1955 Chevrolet's small-block V8 was offered as an option. The V8 was one of the first mass produced cars to have fuel injection. It was also one of the first cars to have 1 BHP per cubic inch, a big achievement at the time. When it came to designing the second generation Corvette, GM entrusted Larry Shinoda with designing the next generation. The "C2" was released in 1963 and featured more aggressive styling a la a Mako Shark he caught while on a Deepsea fishing trip. The new Corvette was a hit and continues to be one of the most valuable body styles to date.
